Perhaps one of the places hit hardest on Earth was Australia. A strange island of Western Civillization in a far flung corner of the world. It has one of the highest standards of life, it's considered the ultimate farm team for Hollywood, and has an outsized effect of the American media culture. But in a New Middle Ages, it's an isolated rock with spent soil. It's population is hollowed out, maxing out at 3 or four million people, many returning to the Bush and the Dreamtime, a few scattered herders and farmers, and some ports for the East Indies kingdoms to set up shops. Any cities that exist are practically at Bronze Age levels, simply because they don't have the infrastructure loops. Sydney is definitely no longer a world city. But one piece of iconography remains: They Sydney Opera House is no more, but the design by Jørn Utzon, called the "Spherical Solution", is meant to evoke shells and sails: Perfect for even for, maybe especially for the sustitence fishers Australia has now become. The design is realtively easy to create with shells or sheets, and is seen very often on necklaces, tents, and even a few boats, though ofen more ceremonial vessels, as ships with more utilitarian purposes aren't going to sacrifice function for form. But the iconography remains prevelant throughout the continent.
